Supporting policies at the state and federal levels

The Kentucky Access to Care Coalition supports policies at the state and federal levels that will ensure patients can access the care, medications and treatment options they need to manage and improve health outcomes.

Protecting Access to
Medicare Part D

  • Medicare Part D ensures Kentucky seniors and individuals living with disabilities have access to the medications they need.

  • The program has consistently come in under budget and scores extremely high on beneficiary satisfaction surveys.

  • Efforts to dismantle Medicare Part D's "non-interference" clause would unnecessarily restrict patient access to much-needed medications.

Protecting Affordable
Access to Medications

  • Certain insurer practices, whether they are referred to as “co-insurance” or some other name, threaten to put medications financially out of reach for many Kentuckians as they shift the cost of medications to consumers.

  • Kentuckians need protections from insurance company policies that unfairly burden patients with a higher percentage of the cost of their medications.

  • The U.S. health care system promotes innovation and affordability through the prescription drug lifecycle.

Promoting Life Science
Innovation and New Cures

  • Incentivizing the development of new, innovative medications and treatment options is good for patients, the economy and society as a whole.

  • Without new medicines, the cost of disease could bankrupt the U.S. health care system.

  • Intellectual property protection are vital to continuing innovation and new cures in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Cost & Value
of Medications

  • Patients in Kentucky are living longer, healthier and more productive lives thanks to new medications and treatments.

  • Medications help patients avoid costly hospitalizations and emergency room visits.

  • The United States invests heavily in research and development of new medications that help people across the country and around the world.
